2 Habits Of Highly Healthy People

There are many conflicting theories as to what the experts consider to be healthy. There are multiple different approaches to living a healthy lifestyle. However, all healthy people do have one thing in common. They have formed positive habits that result in their optimum health level. Let's look at some of these habits a little closer.

Habit 1: Probably the most important habit that highly healthy people have developed is regular exercise. There are many different schools of thought on this subject as well. How much is enough? As a basic rule, any amount of exercise is better than none. Therefore, if you aren't currently exercising, start out lightly. Don't try to run the Boston Marathon tomorrow after reading this. No one wants to go to the gym for a grueling, four hour workout. Anyone can fit 20 minutes of exercise in, though. If you exercise for 20 minutes, at least 3-5 times per week, you'll be healthier than most of the population. If you can eventually bump that up to an hour per day you'll be doing great.

What type of exercise should you engage in? There are countless exercises that you can engage in that will greatly benefit you. Probably the most convenient forms are walking and jogging. You can do these two pretty much anywhere. Even if you don't have a treadmill, just go outside. Besides aerobic exercise, a weight training routine is ideal. Developing muscle helps boost your metabolism and keeps everything running smoothly.

Habit 2: Another factor to a healthy lifestyle is drinking water. This may seem simple, but it is so important. The benefits of drinking water have been proven time and time again. It keeps everything working properly and it actually makes you feel better. After you start exercising, you'll probably want to drink even more water. If you feel sluggish and tired all of the time, there's a good chance that you're dehydrated. Drinking six, eight-ounce glasses per day is great. These two habits are obvious, but two of the most important.

will bromelain destory healthy living tissue?

I heard bromelain is very good for taking down scar tissue, and plaque and stuff. But is it safe for living tissue, will it also break down healthy living tissue?
I brought me some serrapeptase today because according to many various websites they conclude that it only breaks down fiberious tissue, plaque and scar tissue ect. without harming living and healthy tissue.
But what about bromelain?

Bromelain is an enzyme found in Pineapple that has a few different health benefits. When it is taken away from food it acts as an anti-inflammatory. When taken with food it acts as a digestive aid. I have not heard anything about harmful effects on healthy tissue. Hope that helps.

How long you live is determined by … genetics? … healthy living?

I'm wondering what the prime factor is for a long healthy life.

What has the greater impact - genetics or healthy living? And, do you have a scientific basis for the answer?

Back when Reagan was president his surgeon general was C. Everett Koop, Dr. Koop used to travel the country demonizing smoking and to a lesser extent drinking, one day he was on Letterman's show and was taking questions from the audience a person asked the doctor to explain why almost everybody has a story about an old family member that lived a very long life and was never seen without a drink in one hand and a smoke in the other the doctor quickly replied "good genes" so I'll go with the doc. and say genetics.

What Are Healthy Eating Habits?

From the Nutritional Pyramid to eat all of your vegetables, your doctor, school health classes and your mother have stressed healthy eating habits. The concept of eating healthy foods has been promoted ever since we learned that what we eat has a direct effect on our health.

Healthy eating is a habit of selecting the quantity and quality of foods that will either improve or maintain a good level of health. Usually, this means following the guidelines set by those who know the best, including scientific researchers, doctors, and nutritionists.

Health professionals set nutritional recommendations based on the ingredients and contents of food items. How fast and efficiently the body breaks down a food item and uses it for energy influences the way certain eating habits are viewed. For example, eating foods filled with sugar will not do much for maintaining a healthy body. The empty calories that sweets have actually aid in weight gain and increased glucose levels, which affect a variety of health concerns, such as diabetes.

The concept of healthy eating has changed over the years. This can be seen through the shift in the commonly used Nutritional Pyramid. In the past, the Pyramid gave daily recommendations on how many servings from each food group was needed to achieve healthy eating habits. Everyone was expected to follow the same recommendations. Today, these guidelines are now based on the differences that individuals have. The new serving suggestions now take into account factors such as weight, height, level of physical activity, age and gender.

By entering your information on the MyPyramid.gov website, you will receive a personalized plan suggesting the best selections from each food group that will keep you healthy. You will also receive advice on how to couple healthy eating habits with an acceptable amount of physical activity. The goal is to achieve an overall increase in health through a better balance of nutrition, calories and exercise.

Living a healthy life through the foods we eat means taking into account all of the factors that come with various eating habits. This includes the total amount of calorie consumption throughout the day. Healthy eating deals with the balance of important nutrients, such as carbohydrates, proteins and fats. For example, there are some carbohydrates considered healthier than others. Knowing how to separate good carbs from bad carbs contributes to nourishing eating habits that last a lifetime.

To improve your health, one should consume more nutritious foods, such as brown rice and green vegetables, while at the same time, decreasing the consumption of candy bars, fried foods and soda. Foods rich in vitamins contribute to healthy eating practices. You should also know that the way you prepare your food also has an influence on your health. For example, fruits and vegetables retain more vitamins and nutrients when eaten raw, rather than boiled, steamed or cooked in the microwave. Avoiding foods with a high concentration of dyes, artificial sweeteners and preservatives is also helpful.

For more information, there are numerous resources that offer a list of healthy foods and advice for healthy eating practices. These references may be found on the Internet, in the local bookstore, at the library and throughout your doctors office. Learning how to eat right will not only boost your overall health, but also lead to securing a longer, more productive life.

At my school, we're planing on having a family night for kids, but we need a motto and I can't think of one. I need one that deals with healthy living but then has to do with drugs too. Our group is about saying no to drugs, but this years theme is healthy living. So if you can think of one it would be greatly apprieciated. It also needs to be appropriate for the kids and for them to understand it.

Is Lobster A Healthy Or Unhealthy Food?

In our modern day, it seems that nearly everything we eat carries the risk of being unhealthy. Eating fish has known health benefits, yet some species of fish may contain unsafe levels of mercury and PCB's. Eating fresh fruit is known to be healthy, yet many fruits are sprayed with chemical pesticides the residues of which are of questionable risk. The same can be said of vegetables.

Whether the above mentioned food items are healthy or unhealthy is beyond the scope of this article. It does point out, though, that the debate continues on which foods contribute to good health, and which foods pose a health risk. This article will present information for the reader to determine which camp lobster belongs in: healthy or unhealthy.

Let's start with the few arguments that put forth the case that lobster is unhealthy. There are not many. We've read that one doctor advises against eating lobster because it may contain parasites and viruses. Nothing like pointing out the obvious. Every living creature on Earth may contain parasites and viruses, which is why any animal-based food product should be cooked before being eaten. Cooking eliminates this risk. One risk that cooking will not eliminate is excess levels of mercury. No matter how much you cook any fish or seafood item, it will not remove mercury.

How much mercury does lobster have? Before we answer that question, we need to look a little at mercury and the reasons it is in seafood to begin with. The FDA states in their report "What you need to know about mercury in fish and shellfish" that "nearly all fish and shellfish contain traces of mercury" and that "Mercury occurs naturally in the environment and can also be released into the air through industrial pollution. Mercury falls from the air and can accumulate in streams and oceans."

What can be gleaned from this report are two facts. One, that all fish and shellfish contain traces of mercury. Two, Mercury occurs naturally as well. If mercury occurs naturally, it is probably safe to assume that all fish and shellfish have always contained traces of mercury. Which begs the question: are mercury levels in fish and shellfish any higher now than they were 50 or 100 years ago? The answer is that scientists do no know for sure, as tests for mercury in fish were not done back then. Regardless, the FDA lists four fish varieties that have higher level of mercury than all others: shark, swordfish, king mackerel, and tilefish. They also list five that are very low in mercury: shrimp, canned light tuna, salmon, pollock and catfish. Lobster is closer to the 5 on the low end than the 4 on the high end.

Even the 4 fish varieties that have higher levels of mercury are safe to eat in moderation for all people other than pregnant mothers, and mothers nursing infant children. It is only these 4 varieties that should be avoided in the two circumstances just mentioned. Lobster is not included in the list of fish to avoid when pregnant.

The final argument against lobster that we have heard is not based on science at all. The argument is that lobsters are bottom feeders and eat decaying and rotting fish that sink to the bottom. The logic of the argument is that since lobsters are eating these things that aren't healthy for people, people shouldn't be eating lobsters. The problem with this argument is that it is not based on facts. The fact is that lobsters eat mainly live food. Their primary diet consists of live fish, clams, crabs, mussels and sea urchins. Lobsters do eat dead bait in traps, but humans eat dead fish too! Ask any lobsterman, and they will tell you: the fresher the bait, the better it will "fish." This is trade language which, when translated, means that if you put fresh bait in your traps it will attract more lobsters. Old bait does not attract many lobsters at all.

When fish gets old and borderline saleable at a seafood market, it begins to emit an ammonia smell. At that point, which can be about 5 to 7 days after being caught, it is no longer appealing to humans. It is the same for lobsters. They prefer live, fresh food, but will eat dead bait in traps if it is fresh and not old.

This last argument against lobster as a healthy food is the weakest and not based upon fact at all, but rather on fallacy: lobsters eat primarily live food, not decaying, rotting dead fish.

Now we'll look at the factors in favor of lobster being a healthy food.

There are several health reasons that lobster should be eaten. The first comes from the American Heart Associations Page on Fish and Omega-3 Fatty Acids which recommends eating fish at least 2 times per week. A quote from the American Heart Association is worth sharing here, "Fish is a good source of protein and doesn't have the high saturated fat that fatty meat products do."

Lobster is indeed an excellent source of lean protein. 100 grams of lobster meat contains 98 calories, 21 grams of protein, and only 0.6 grams of fat. Contrast that to 100 grams of white, skinless chicken meat which has 168 calories, 31 grams of protein, and 3.6 grams of fat. Gram for gram, even skinless chicken contains in excess of 500% more fat than lobster. Lean beef contains more than 10 times as much fat as lobster. Obviously, lobster is an excellent source of lean protein.

Lobster is more than just a lean source of protein. Lobster also contains Omega-3 fatty acids, which are associated with good heart health. There are several valuable benefits from a diet which regularly contains Omega-3 fatty acids. Again quoting from the American Heart Association, "The ways that omega-3 fatty acids reduce CVD (cardio-vascular disease) risk are still being studied. However, research has shown that they decrease risk of arrhythmias, which can lead to sudden cardiac death, decrease triglyceride levels, decrease growth rate of atherosclerotic plaque, and lower blood pressure (slightly)." The report further states, "Large-scale epidemiologic studies suggest that people at risk for coronary heart disease benefit from consuming omega-3 fatty acids from plants and marine sources."

Lobster does not contain as much Omega-3 fatty acids as salmon, which has the highest content, but is a good source nonetheless.

In summary, lobster is high in protein, extremely low in fat, is a beneficial source of Omega-3 fatty acids which are healthy for the heart and reduce the growth rate of plaque. Lobsters feed primarily on live food: fish, crabs, clams and mussels. Lobster have a very healthy diet which would be beneficial to humans, not harmful to them.

There you have the arguments for and against lobster as a healthy food source. The evidence suggests lobster is a very healthy food choice. Not only is it very healthy, it tastes absolutely extravagant. Enjoy your lobster!

What To Avoid In An Anti Aging Skin Care Cream

It is not like it is never happened to anyone before. So you need to consider using an anti aging skin care eye cream. Whining that you didn't need one a few years ago isn't going to help. You also weren't as happy with your life and yourself as you were a few years ago. Age and maturity are big benefits in knowing how to live and love your life. Of course, nature is going to demand a trade off. In this case it just happens to be your flawless skin. While you are calculating the reasons for the eye wrinkle's appearance in the first place, why don't you consider where it came from? If you think about it, it probably came from living well and laughing hard. In those terms, a little wrinkling isn't so bad after all. While there are a lot of benefits to the self esteem and your overall appearance in using an anti aging skin care product, it is important to find one that really does the job for you and your skin. Like with any skin care products, anti aging skin care creams are surrounded by a lot of hype. They all claim to be able to magically remove the effects of time. There are some that do their job well, and others that don't do anything, or worse, are damaging to the skin. For example, a lot of additives are drying the skin. It may not feel dry at first, but over time dry, itching patches appear on the skin. On the other hand, some skin care products have so much moisturizer that they are a break out waiting to happen. Be your own consumer watchdog, and carefully check out the product reviews on eye and face anti aging skin care creams to avoid getting hosed. Use your sound judgment before you spend the money. This goes for all anti aging skin care products including face wrinkle cream, serums, and lotions.
